Let's Have Some Fun! - Trusted Senior Specialists

Regardless of your age, and in the words of Cyndi Lauper “girls ( and boys) just wanna have fun!”  Let me share a fun list of ideas you can choose from to enjoy your retirement years.  You’ve earned it.

Pastimes that make you laugh, feel good, lose track of time or fulfill you, can all be fun.  There are plenty of activities you can do alone or with your social circle.  According to a study by  greatseniorliving.com, four of the top five activities most commonly cited by active seniors as being their favorites are simply going for walks, gardening, yard work, sports, boating etc. What better time in your life than when you’re retired to finally get to do all the fun stuff you wanted to do and never had time due to raising your family and earning a living.   You can either resume your old favorite activities like riding your bike or try something new like pickleball. Maybe dancing or karaoke is more your style.  How about volunteering at a pet shelter, a children’s hospital or your favorite charity?

With a larger group of your retired friends you can maybe host a Murder Mystery dinner party, a Hawaiin Luau, a Masquerade Ball or Trivia or a Casino Night. I’ll bet you have never done at least one of those ideas!

Are you more of an outdoorsy type?  Try bird watching, gardening, hiking, picnics, boating, flying a kite or nature photography.

Are you an artsy type?  Try ceramics or pottery, jewelry making, quilting, beading, sketching etc.

Have you tried one of those Escape Rooms?  Gather your retired friends with their varied skills and insights and have a go at it.  They require logic, visual awareness, creative thinking, problem solving, teamwork and analyzing, all in a fun way.

Fun activities for seniors with limited mobility or physical impairments such as vision or hearing can include reading books or listening to audiobooks, chair yoga, or exercises using a walker.  These simple and gentle movements will help reduce swelling in feet and ankles.

So Why is Play Important?

Scientific studies prove that enjoyable activities have several major health and physical benefits.  They can enhance your mental sharpness as well as your emotional well-being.  Play can help you heal, establish or maintain relationships, just so long as you’re not too worried about keeping score.

Traditional games and puzzles you can either play alone or with a friend are online Scrabble, Pictionary, Yahtzee, Checkers, Backgammon, Cribbage, Poker, Bridge, Mahjong, Canasta, Rummy Crosswords, Jigsaw and Word Search Puzzles. We have some on our website and Facebook page. Click the links below to play!
