If you’re shopping for Medicare coverage, a Medicare Advantage plan may be right for you. Some people choose Medicare Advantage plans because of the extra benefits they provide compared to Original Medicare plans. These are some extra benefits you can potentially get from Medicare Advantage plans.
Vision, Dental, and Hearing
Original Medicare plans do not offer vision, dental, or hearing coverage. Most Medicare Advantage plans don’t even offer this specialized form of coverage. If you shop around, you can find these benefits included in some Advantage plans, but help from an insurance agent may be necessary.
Prescription Drug Coverage
If you enroll in Original Medicare, you will need to source your prescription drug coverage separately via the Part D prescription drug coverage program. With Medicare Advantage, your Part D benefits are oftentimes included directly in your plan. If you choose a plan that does not have prescription drug coverage, you can still enroll in Part D coverage if necessary.
Supplemental Benefits
There are many extra benefits offered in some Advantage plans that are not featured in traditional Medicare plans, like gym memberships and transportation perks. Your Advantage plan may even offer discounted meal delivery programs or other supplemental benefits. Check with an insurance agent to see what options are available in your area.
Maximum Out-Of-Pocket Limits
Unlike Original Medicare plans, Medicare Advantage plans have an annual limit on out-of-pocket costs. Your policy will not require any more out-of-pocket payments once you’ve met the annual threshold. In 2022 the out-of-pocket limit may not exceed $7,550 for in-network services and $11,300 for in-network and out-of-network services combined. These limits will increase to $8,300 for in-network services and $12,450 for in-network and out-of-network services combined in 2023.
